Lahainaʻs iconic banyan tree on Front Street will soon be adorned with holiday cheer.

On Friday, the county department of parks and recreation received approval from Mayor Michael Victorino to decorate the tree with Christmas lights.

“Our Parks and Rec staff have been actively working with Lahaina community groups since November to allow for the lights to be strung along the Banyan Tree,” Victorino said in a press release.

“I continue to support this longstanding holiday tradition, but our department is awaiting the necessary paperwork from the groups to complete this process. We hope to see these lights brighten our historic park so it may be enjoyed by our keiki and West Maui community.”

It is unclear when the lights will be installed.
