Francis A. Echalas, 92, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on Nov. 29, 2019 at his home in Wailuku. He was born on June 4, 1927, in Urdaneta Pangasinan, Philippines and moved to Maui in 1969. His parents Martin Contaue Echalas and Casimira Valdez Agbanlog, siblings Anselmo and Cora all predeceased him. Francis was a very friendly and outgoing man who loved to socialize. One of his favorite past times was to play volleyball. His passion for music lead him to start a live band as “lead” guitarist in the late 70’s. He was devoted to his family and children and very generous to everybody. Not only did he help his own children be successful but extended his generosity to others. To everyone around him, he taught us the values of commitment, determination and hard work. He retired as carpenter at Hawaiian Dredging Company.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019, at Ballard Family Mortuary with a program to begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, December 21, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; Prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m.; Burial will follow, 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation.
He was predeceased by his son, Francisco Junior Echalas and his first wife, Marcelina Consolacion Echalas and is survived by his loving wife, Leonila Echalas; children, Shirley Echalas, Nenita Echalas Hipol, Lerma Echalas Pena, Marilyn Echalas Sijalbo, Angelito Echalas, Aljon Echalas, Judy Echalas Salvador, Charito Echalas Chichioco; grandchildren, Sherwin E. Baniago, Wil E. Baniago, Sheila Marie E. Racela, Michael Scott E. Hipol, Ronald E. Pena, Rochelle Lea E. Pena; Arnel E. Sijalbo, Laurie Ann E. Rios, Leonard Echalas, Brittney Echalas, Dean Echalas, Francis Echalas, Antwone Echalas, Rowell Echalas, Marc Christopher Echalas, Chanel Marie Echalas, Princess Ann, Diana Mae E. Ibera, Charish Ashley E. Scannell, Charles Anthony E. Chichioco, Christi Alyssa E. Gayoma, Chasiti Aleksa E. Chichioco, Kurt Francis E. Chichioco; and 20+ great grandchildren.

Rolando Rodriguez Foronda, 73 of Wailuku, Hawaiʻi peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Oct. 29, 1946 to the late Jaime Foronda and Patrocinio Rodriguez.
He is survived by his wife, Estrella (Esther) Andres Vinoray Foronda; Ron Foronda (son), Robert Foronda (son), Roella Foronda (daughter), Kingston Foronda (grandson), Allyson Foronda-Poynter (granddaughter), Jaime Foronda (brother), Lolita Foronda Pascual (aunt), and Blandina Vinoray (mother in law).
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 with public visitation at 6 p.m. at Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku.
Funeral Mass Services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at St. Anthony Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass to begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku at the Garden of Meditation.
The Foronda family wishes to express a heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Maui Memorial Medical Center and Islands Hospice for their compassionate care of Rolando during his final time here.

Joan Antonia Pacheco, 87, of Kahului passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 5, 2019. She was born on May 30, 1932 in Kaheka, Maui to the late Carlos and Sebastiana Melendez.
She is predeceased by her husband, Henry T. Pacheco and 14 brothers and sisters. Joan was a faithful member of First Assembly of God, King’s Cathedral. She was a great woman of God, very faithful and a prayer warrior. Joan retired from Kaiser Permanente in Wailuku. She loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and just became a great-great grandmother.
Joan is survived by her children, Cheryl Pacheco, Henrietta Kekaha, Mark Pacheco; grandchildren, Robert (Brenda) Puu III, Cherilyn “Ui” (Lawrence “LD” Demello) Kelekoma, Tera Lee Puu, Rayann Sagon, Rachel Sagon, Roselani Kekaha, Hanale (Shantel Fernandez) Kekaha, Jennine Pacheco, Cherish Pacheco, Marlene Pacheco, Joshua Pacheco, Ali’i Decambra, Josiah Pacheco; great grandchildren, Aryal Jardines, Kaulana Puu, Leimana Puu, Koali’i (Mya Santos) Puu, Kaililau Puu, Justin “Kaeo” Kelekoma, Koni Demello, Kama Demello, Kainalu Mengual, Izaiah Puu, Milliana “Mia” Mengual, Kameahope Mengual, Ryan Sagon, Litty Obet, Kaiana Kekaha, Anela Kekaha, Shyra-Ann Fernandez, Jayden Kauai-Kekaha, Damien Lau, Nalea Kekaha, Nainoa Kekaha, Liloa Kekaha, Shayla Pacheco-Vinuya, Cameron Pacheco-Vinuya, Cruze Vinuya, Aukele Decoite; great-great grandchild, Alachi Puu; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019 at King’s Cathedral. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with services to begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park in the Garden of Meditation at 12:30 p.m.

Narife Andaya, 54 of Kahului passed away on Friday Dec. 6, 2019 at the Kaiser Moanalua Hospital in Honolulu. She was born on Oct. 28,1965 in the Philippines.
Narife is survived by her husband, Rodrigo Andaya; Mother Narcisa Gines; 3 children Febbles Marie, Christopher Jorge, and Beverly Anne Andaya; Brother Feliciano Gines Jr. along with her extended Gines & Andaya ohana. She is predeceased by her brother Fedaline and father Feliciano Gines Sr.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2019 at Christ the King Church in Kahului with prayer services starting at 7 p.m. Second day visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Christ the King Church in Kahului; Mass to begin at 11a.m. with burial services to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haʻikū.
September 3, 1938 – December 6, 2019
Margaret Genobia Mahadocon, born on Sept. 3, 1938 in Pu’unēnē, Maui, Hawaiʻi, passed on peacefully with family at home on Dec. 6, 2019 at the age of 81.
Margaret, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, is survived by her husband Raymond Mahadocon, brothers Fortunado and Derek, sisters Eileen (deceased), Momi, and Patricia, her children Douglas (Beth), Lori-Ann, Jeff (Kristi), grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Margaret, a graduate of Maui High school (1956), was a retired registered nurse of over 30 years. She was known for her easy laugh, support of charities, love of family, passion for gardening and fishing.
Services will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
Laureen “Laurie” Tavares
July 3, 1958 – December 8, 2019
Laureen “Laurie” G.L. Tavares, 61, of Makawao, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2019 at her home. She was born on July 3, 1958 in Honolulu.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Christ the King Church, Mass will begin at 11 a.m., inurnment 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park – Maui View Garden. Family request to limit flowers to lei only.
Laureen was a clerk at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Kahului.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey E. Tavares; son, David Tavares; sisters, Brenda (Roger) Duquette, Yolanda (Clayton) Campbell, Jeanne (Stanley) Huihui, Pauline Mena; brother, Bruce (Kalei) Tong Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Laureen is predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Via-Hart Tong; and sister Sylvia (Herbert) Leong.
The family would like to acknowledge Hospice Maui for their compassionate care of Laureen.
