Seabury Hall-iday Raises $6,000 for Maui Nonprofits
Seabury Hall raised an estmated $6,000 for Maui nonprofit organizations during its inaugural Seabury Hall-iday: Lights for Charity event held on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019. In addition, attendees filled four barrels full of food items that were donated to the Maui Food Bank.
The event welcomed 1400 visitors, who enjoyed festive decorations and performances by the Seabury Hall chorus, band, and Hawaiian ensemble.
Head of School Maureen Madden did the honors of lighting the 20-foot holiday tree while students and faculty burst into a flash mob performance of Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s “You Make It Feel Light Christmas.”
Nonprofit beneficiaries of the event include: Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui, Hospice Maui, Ka Hale a Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers, Maui Friends of the Library, Maui Humane Society, Pacific Cancer Foundation and Pono Academy.
The Class of 2022 won the friendly holiday decorating competition by raising more than $2,000 for the Children’s Justice Center of Maui. The 10th graders collected hundreds of toys to donate to the organization and used those donated items to create a magical Toyland display before they were given to Maui children in need.
Administrators say Seabury Hall plans to continue the new holiday tradition by hosting next year’s event on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.
