Jollibee, “Home of the Famous Chickenjoy” opens on Maui on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, according to a company announcement. The popular fast-food chain in the Philippines, opens its first Maui location at the Maui Marketplace in Kahului.

Honeybee Foods Corporation dba Jollibee started posting job openings on Maui about 10 months ago seeking a restaurant supervisor for its Kahului location. The eatery will be located at 270 Dairy Road #270, the site of the old Bank of Hawaiʻi branch. Store hours for opening day and beyond are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Maui location is one of two Jollibee restaurants opening in the US within the span of a week. The company is also opening its first store in Florida’s Tampa Bay area in the city of Pinellas Park on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020.

The new stores are part of the brand’s plans to grow to 150 stores in the US by 2023. According to the company’s website, the chain’s first US location opened more than 20 years ago in Daly City, California, in 1998. Today, there’s locations in California, Florida, Hawaiʻi, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington and Virginia.

The Maui location will be Jollibee’s 41st store in the US and the fifth in Hawaiʻi.

The Jollibee website states that the company is best known for its “Chickenjoy,” which is delicately hand-breaded to be crispy on the outside, with a secret marinade on the inside. Other favorites are the restaurant’s sweet-style Jolly Spaghetti and Peach Mango Pie.

“We cannot wait to welcome Jollibee fans who have long waited for their turn to finally have Jollibee in their area, in addition to welcoming new foodies intrigued by our unique menu, which we fondly describe as a joyous mash-up of Western comfort food and Asian flavors,” said Beth Dela Cruz, President of Jollibee Foods Corporation North America, Philippine Brands Group in a press release.

“The brand is expanding to Maui to give fans and newcomers living there an easier way to get their Chickenjoy and further add to the already vibrant food scene on the island,” the company announcement said.

In honor of the brand’s arrival in Pinellas Park and Maui, Jollibee will offer an exclusive tasting for select fans at each store the day before the store opens to the public. On opening day, Jollibee will also be giving away exclusive collectible items and fan-favorite products.
