Waiʻānapanapa State Park in East Maui will be closed on Wednesday morning from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. for roadway repairs, the Department of Land and Natural Resources announced today.

Tomʻs Backhoe & Excavation has been contracted for repair work to the lower section of Honokalani Road, just above the park.

DLNR officials say the road is pitted with pot holes and is in need of repair.

Campers and permittees who are already at the park will be allowed to leave, but will have to return after 12 p.m. when the park re-opens.

Honokalani Road will be closed at the top at its entrance off of Hāna Highway to everyone except for local traffic and residents in the area.

State Parks have contacted all of the commercial operators who frequent the park and the Hāna Police Department. Park staff has also informed the residents along Honokalani Road of the closure.
