Roadwork at Kahului Airport Starts Monday, Jan. 27

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation will begin temporary construction on Old Haleakalā Highway/Kala Road at the Kahului Airport starting on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.

A lane closure will be in effect for paving and improvement work on Old Haleakalā Highway/Kala Road between the Heliport intersection and the Airport Access Road (the cargo facility entrance).

Paving and shoulder improvement work runs through Friday, Jan. 31 and takes place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting. No work is scheduled the week of Feb. 3, unless crews are impacted by weather the previous week.

Striping work will continue from Monday, Feb. 10 through Friday, Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting. No work is scheduled on weekends or the President’s Day holiday on Feb. 17.

Traffic will be maintained through a single lane contraflow during the work hours with flaggers on location to assist with traffic flow. Motorists are advised to expect delays and allow for extra travel time to get to the airport.
