Police Investigate Alleged Attempted Kidnapping in Kīhei, Unable to Substantiate Claim

An individual arrested for an alleged attempted kidnapping at a shopping center in Kīhei on Thursday night was released pending further investigation.
Police say a criminal investigation into the incident has not substantiated the original claim, and the alleged responsible has been cooperative with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
Police responded to the report at around 7:38 p.m. at the Kukui Mall in Kīhei. At around 9:15 p.m., police arrested a 40-year-old man from the Kīhei area on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and second degree robbery.
