The state placed a Hawaiʻi resident into quarantine at Pearl Harbor on Monday morning after learning that the individual traveled through the Hubei Province over the weekend.

Lieutenant Governor Josh Green, who spoke at a press conference on Monday said state health officials were aware of the situation within an hour and quarantined the individual based on policy and an “overabundance of caution.”

The action was taken per the mandate that the federal government has asked the state to adhere to, according to state officials.

“Any individual who has been in the Hubei Province within two weeks, is placed into a mandatory 14-day quarantine,” said Lt. Gov. Green, who noted that the person is healthy (asymptomatic) with no symptoms.

The individual will be monitored during the quarantine by the state Department of Health in coordination with personnel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

State health officials emphasized that there are no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the state.  The state is monitoring 26 individuals at home, all of whom traveled to parts of China recently.  None have symptoms and none have required testing, according to state officials.
