Sione Poasi

July 30, 1952 – February 22, 2020

Sione “Pita” Lapale Poasi, 67 of Lahaina, passed away on Feb. 22, 2020, at Hospice Maui Hale in Wailuku. He was born on July 30, 1952 in Haapai, Tonga.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Maui Lani; service will begin at 12 noon with burial to follow at Valley Isle Memorial Park at 2 p.m.

Sione was a groundskeeper at Royal Lahaina Resort until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Florence N. Poasi; daughters, Amy Vargas, Allison (Angel) Eddins, Asela (Raymo) Poasi, Alisi (Robert) Poasi, Florence K. (Jairus) Poasi; brothers, Tuakolo Fonua, Kesitoni Fonua, Salesi Fonua; sister, Asela Fonua; grandchildren, Talisha-Ann, Tayla-Marie, Tayvia, Tia, Kamaki, Kamalani, Aukai, Righteous-Harmony, Ka’ipolei, Teresa, Qjara-Rose, Toriana, and Sariya-ann.

Sione is predeceased by his parents, Lopeti & Asela Poasi; and sister, Teuila Fonua.

Juanita Bumanglag

October 12, 1924 – March 8, 2020

Juanita Calad Bumanglag, 95 of Lanai City, Hawaii passed away on March 8, 2020 in her home on Lanai. She was born on October 12, 1924 in North Hilo, Hawaii.

Juanita has lived on Lanai for many years and has worked as a field laborer for the Dole Company. She is a widow, but is survived by her cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Services will be held at Scared Hearts Church on Lanai on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Visitation to begin at 10:00 a.m. with Mass to begin at 11 a.m. Once services has concluded, burial to commence at the Lanai Community Cemetery.
