Traffic Pattern: Honoapi‘ilani Hwy Between Kūihelani Hwy and Waikō Rd
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is providing notice of a detour traffic pattern on Honoapiʻilani Highway between Kūihelani Highway and Waikō Road in Waikapū. Beginning Wednesday, April 8, northbound traffic will be detoured to Kūihelani Highway during work hours, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Southbound traffic will remain on Honoapiʻilani Highway.
This detour and increased work hours are to support road reconstruction for the project, Honoapiʻilani Highway Resurfacing, Keanu Street to Kūihelani Highway. Traffic counts since the Statewide Stay-at-Home order began indicates that traffic volumes on this route have reduced by 45-percent. The detour and extended work hours are expected to reduce the length of time needed for the repaving by 40-percent.
Motorists with essential business are asked to follow the directions of the police officers at the intersections and to allow additional time to pass through the area.
The detour will increase safety at the job site and improve efficiency of material delivery. After the workday is over, all lanes will be opened and operate as normal. HDOT will monitor the job site and adjust as necessary.
The detour will extend to Kuikahi Drive later in the month. See below. Click to view in greater detail.
