Representative Tulsi Gabbard this afternoon called for Lieutenant Josh Green to lead the state’s coronavirus crisis. She also is asking that state Health Director Bruce Anderson and Dr. Sarah Park to be fired. She said “if Gov. Ige won’t do it, he should resign.”  (Her full statement is included in a video she provided HERE).

Gov. David Ige responded to a question related to this during a press conference this afternoon saying, “I have full faith and confidence and Dr. Anderson and Dr. Sarah Park and the entire team at the Department of Health.”

“If you look at the statistics of what is happening here in Hawaiʻi, we are outperforming virtually every other state in the country.  We have the situation under control.  We have sufficient health care facilities and equipment, so it’s interesting that she would make that comment,” said Gov. Ige, “But on behalf of all of you, all of your actions in the community–staying at home, working from home have all helped us be successful and I think we can all be proud of the work that we’ve done and what the situation is here in the islands in regards to COVID-19.”

Dr. Anderson responded to a similar question at the same press conference saying of Rep. Gabbard’s comments, “She has her own opinions. I respect those, and no comment.”
