Food Drive at Kūʻau Store Collects 400 Pounds of Food, $700 in 3 Hours

In just three hours, a coalition in support of Volunteer Week Hawaiʻi raised an estimated $700, collected 400 pounds of food and built 32 medical kits for the homeless supporting Maui Rapid Response.

The food drive on Friday was held at the Kūʻau Store in Pāʻia.  Additional food drives run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. today (Saturday, April 25) at Hope Chapel in Kīhei and AutoZone in Kahului across from the Kahului Post Office.

The drives are supported by an Ocean Based Coalition consisting of Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund, Surfrider, Love the Sea, and the Pacific Whale Foundation. The event was co-hosted and supported by the County of Maui, Department of Housing and Human Concerns Volunteer Center, and Kanu Hawaiʻi.

“In times like these we have the opportunity to change our focus and strong networks towards the needs of our community,” said Matt Lane  Co-Executive Director of Love the Sea.
