Tavares also sustained multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and lacerations, according to police reports. Police say the incident stemmed from an argument over personal issues.

Both the victim and Tavares were transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.

Upon his release from the hospital, Ricardo Tavares was taken into police custody and was placed under arrest for second degree attempted murder.
