Ka Lima O Maui Honors Employees, Businesses Who Made a Difference

The nonprofit Ka Lima O Maui honored participants and supporters who have made a difference in 2020. The community-based vocational rehabilitation program is known for providing job training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities since 1955.

Each year the organization recognizes outstanding individuals and businesses at its annual meeting, but due to COVID-19, there was no public event this year.

“Still, we want to recognize the people and community supporters who have gone beyond just being participants or contacts and have made a major difference for Ka Lima O Maui in the past year. We appreciate all of our partners, workers, and participants and thank everyone in the community for all that you do for Ka Lima O Maui,” said Darby Gill, Ka Lima O Maui’s Director of Marketing.

Among those recognized this year were:

• Claudia Rosenbaum, Staff of the Year
• Eva Ujano, Waiver Participant of the Year
• Sam Cabalo, Co-Grounds Employee of the Year
• Juan Martinez, Co-Grounds Employee of the Year
• Brian Bantilan, Custodial Employee of the Year
• Maui Police Department, Custodial Contractor of the Year
• County of Maui, Grounds Contractor of the Year

Ka Lima O Maui was originally conceived to help tuberculosis patients rehabilitate through learning new skills and craftwork and has since expanded to serve a greater population of persons with disabilities in need of job training.

What began as a sheltered workshop now includes countywide grounds and custodial contracts, as well as formal job placements within private business.
