Bank of Hawaiʻi Warns of Vishing Scam

Bank of Hawaiʻi is warning customers and non-bank customers of fraudulent telephone calls from scammers. The scammers are spoofing Bank of Hawaiʻi, which appears on recipients’ Caller ID.

One number identified is 808-693-1637, although it is common for scammers to use a variety. The caller states that he or she is from Bank of Hawaiʻi and asks for the recipient to press “1″ to speak to a representative or their account will be canceled. This should be viewed as highly suspicious and recipients should hang up.

Here are some important reminders:

• Bank of Hawaiʻi does not call, email or text message customers requesting personal I.D. information (name, social security numbers, PIN, account numbers, passwords, etc.). Any such request asking for personal information should also be viewed as highly suspicious and recipients should hang up.

• Recipients should confirm the validity of suspicious requests by contacting the company supposedly making the call using the phone number that is known to be legitimate.

• In the event a Bank of Hawaiʻi customer mistakenly provided personal information, he or she should immediately contact Bank of Hawaiʻi at 1-888-643-3888 and press “0.”
