Maui Economic Opportunity Youth Services summer program youths, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ bigs and littles and Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman staff joined the E mālama I kō kākou moana “Save Our Ocean” beach cleanup on Thursday, July 29.

Sixteen youth from MEO’s summer program and staff were among the 43 total participants, scouring Sugar Beach in Kīhei, from the condos to the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge parking lot.

The volunteers collected a pickup truck full of trash or about 10 bags – including an old sink, a hammock frame and a rotting pufferfish that had to be disposed of.
