Maui Immigrant Services Division to End Processing Services for Applications

Because of a federal requirement for Maui County staff to prepare and review immigration applications, forms and other documents, the Department of Housing and Human Concerns’ Immigrant Services Division will no longer provide such services beginning Dec. 1, the department announced.

In February, the division received conditional approval by the federal government for recognition and accreditation to process immigration applications, but with division employee retirements accredited staff will no longer be available. The County will not pursue new applications for staff accreditations.

The Immigrant Services Division will continue sharing general US Citizenship and Immigration Services and Embassy updates. The division will also maintain a select supply of current, free immigration forms.

Applicants for federal immigration services are encouraged to know and understand the immigration benefits they are seeking. Division staff will not determine the correct benefit form for applicants. They will need to request documents by correct form name and number. Information and forms are also available online at www.USCIS.gov.

The Immigrant Services Division will provide necessary service referrals and hopes to expand education and outreach.

The termination of immigration form services affects, but is not limited to the following: I-90 Renewal or Replacement of Permanent Resident “green” card, I-765 Application for Employment Authorization (EADs), I-130 Petition for Alien Relative, and N-400 Application for Naturalization (Citizenship).
