Live Theater Is Back at ʻAʻaliʻikūhonua Creative Arts Center in Makawao
Live theater is back at the ʻAʻaliʻikūhonua Creative Arts Center in Makawao with the Seabury Hall Performing Arts Department presenting the musical “The World Goes ‘Round” Nov. 19, 20 and 21.
“The World Goes ‘Round” celebrates the songs of Kander & Ebb, one of the longest and most successful songwriting teams in American musical theater history. Their Broadway shows include Cabaret, Chicago, The Act, Woman of The Year, The Rink and Zorba — and films Funny Lady and New York, New York.
Travel song-to-song–to-song through five decades of beloved Broadway show tunes during the performance.
“Even during COVID, we’ve had a record number of students trying out,” director and choreographer David Ward said. “Kids are hungry for this experience.”
Molly Schad, the vocal and musical director, added: “Because students have lost so many of their usual activities, we wanted to offer this opportunity to as many students as we could.”
The cast of 33 is headed by principals Jack Bendon, Marina Carosso, Bobby Goldyn, Jadyn Gurly, Joshua O’Connor, Stef Peterson, Sophie Preiser, Kristian Lloyd Roque, Preston Summit, Max Tramontin and Leela Waterford, with two dozen other singers and dancers.
Music directors Schad and Peter Della Croce have put together a live band. The show is costumed by Vanessa Cerrito and André Morissette, with sets and lighting by Todd Van Amburgh. The performance is produced by special arrangement with Music Theater International.
“The World Goes ‘Round” starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20, with a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21. Tickets are complimentary but require advance registration at seaburyhall.org. Donations to the Performing Arts Department are well.
