This brush fire was declared 100% contained at 11 a.m. with no further acreage burned.  Personnel will continue monitoring this fire throughout the day.

A brush fire that started Sunday evening in an area mauka of the Mahinahina Water Treatment Plant and Kapalua Airport burned an estimated 80 acres by morning.  

The incident was first reported at 7:35 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022.

Fire officials say conditions became more favorable overnight with winds easing and light intermittent rains reported.

The department’s Air-1 helicopter resumed air support at around 7 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22.  

Department officials say crews will continue working on containment throughout the day.  The fire was 20% contained at last report. 

Crews responding to the fire included: Engine 11, Engine 3, Engine 14, Tanker 3, and Tanker 14. Crews from the County of Maui Dept of Public Works assisted with heavy machinery to cutfire breaks.

Maui fire crews worked overnight to battle a brush fire in the Honokōwai-Kāʻanapali hillside area, southeast of the airport in West Maui.

The fire was reported at around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, and continued to burn into the evening hours. Early reports indicate that containment was reached overnight.

Further details are pending release from the Maui Fire Department.
