AAA Hawaiʻi: Gas prices in holding pattern before Thanksgiving
Hawaiʻi gas prices held steady over the past week as travelers get ready for their Thanksgiving getaways, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.
In Kahului, the average price for regular unleaded gas per gallon is $5.26, which is one cent lower than last week, eight cents lower than last month and 79 cents higher than a year ago.
The average price for the state is $5.20, which is one cent below last week. The average national price is $3.73, which is seven cents lower than a week ago.
In Honolulu, the average price is $5.17; in Hilo it’s $5.05; and in Līhuʻe it’s $5.54, most expensive in the state.
“AAA predicts that residents of Hawaiʻi and other Pacific states will travel in record numbers this Thanksgiving holiday, despite inflation and the highest gas prices ever for this time of year,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “After two years of disrupted vacations, consumers are continuing to prioritize precious time with family and friends, and are economizing in other ways if needed to make up for high prices at the pump.”
AAA Hawaiʻi reminds drivers they can save money on gasoline by shopping around virtually using a tool like the AAA Mobile app, which shows users the cheapest gas prices near them. AAA members can also take advantage of discounted gas prices at participating Shell gas stations by joining the Shell Fuel Rewards program.
