Bathroom fire at Kanahā Beach Park results in $150,000 damage

A public bathroom at Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului was destroyed by fire on Sunday morning, resulting in total damages of $150,000 to the structure.

The incident was reported at 4:15 a.m. on Oct. 22, 2023.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation and an incendiary cause has not been ruled out.

Fire personnel arrived on scene to find the bathroom fully involved with fire. Personnel gained control of the fire at 4:30 a.m., and had the fire extinguished by 6:40 a.m.

Responding units included: Engine 10 and Tanker 10, with assistance from personnel with the state Department of Transportation’s Airport Rescue Fire Fighting division.
