AAA Hawaiʻi: Gas prices drop or hold steady to start 2024

Gas prices either dropped or held steady throughout the state during the first week of 2024, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

The statewide average price for regular unleaded is $4.67, which is one cent lower than last week. The national average gas price is $3.09, which is three cents lower than last week.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.76 is five cents lower than last week, the same as last month and 30 cents lower than a year ago.

In Honolulu, today’s average price for regular unleaded is $4.53, which is one cent lower than last week, four cents lower than last month and 44 cents lower than the price on this date last year.

The Hilo average gas price is $4.79, which is the same as last week, two cents lower than last month and 19 cents lower than on this date a year ago.

Līhuʻe’s average price for regular is $5.20, which is the same as last week, seven cents lower than last month and 21 cents lower than a year ago.

“Hawaiʻi now has the second most expensive gas prices in the US since California gas prices rose to a $4.71 statewide average this week,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager.
