Maui Family YMCA is hosting an open house and retirement celebration for Chief Executive Officer Mike Morris from 4 to 6 p.m. March 15 at the Y facility located at 250 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului. The event is free and open to the public. Light pūpū and beverages will be served.

Morris has served as YMCA chief executive officer for 25 years. During his tenure, the Maui Family YMCA saw growth in membership and expanded its reach to better serve the community through a variety of programs and initiatives.

“He led the YMCA with courage and compassion through the challenges of COVID-19 and the devastating wildfires, proving his unwavering commitment to Maui and its residents,” an announcement of his retirement says.

Morris was also the driving force behind the “Farm the Future” program. That program continues to cultivate the seeds of education and environmental stewardship for island youth. This program, in partnership with Grow Some Good and Red Cabin Foundation, is making an impact that will resonate for years to come, the announcement says.
