Flood Watch issued all main Hawaiian Islands through 6 a.m. Saturday
Update: 1:32 p.m., May 9, 2024
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for all of the main Hawaiian Islands through 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
The NWS reports a strong upper level disturbance will bring scattered heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms tonight through Friday and Friday night. “The heaviest downpours will be hit or miss, but where they do occur, they will be capable of producing rainfall rates in excess of 3 inches per hour,” according to the NWS forecast.
The threat for flash flooding is expected to be the greatest Friday through Friday evening. Conditions should steadily improve from west to east late Friday into Saturday.
The NWS reminds the public: “It does not have to be raining at your location for flash flooding to occur. If you notice signs of heavy rain or thunderstorms upslope, move quickly away from flood prone areas.”
The public is advised to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
