Eight people displaced from Harbor Lights structure fire

Eight people were displaced following a fire at the Harbor Lights Condominiums in Kahului early Sunday morning.

The fire was reported at 3:19 a.m. on July 28, 2024.

Firefighters extended lines to battle the fire in the unit of origin. Other crews worked to check neighboring units for fire extension, and to ensure occupants had evacuated. Ventilation fans were used to clear smoke from hallways and affected units.

At least eight individuals were displaced and were being assisted by the American Red Cross. One resident was treated for possible smoke inhalation.

The fire resulted in damage to the unit of origin and damaged one other unit. Five additional units were damaged by smoke and water. The estimated value of fire damages is $315,000. Smoke and water damage are estimated at $170,000. An unknown amount of damage was done to the contents of the various units.

Crews responding to the scene included: Engine 1, Engine 10, Rescue 10, Hazmat 10, Engine 6, a battalion chief and a fire investigator.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 3:44 a.m., and had the fire extinguished by 7:02 a.m. Crews left the scene at 9:32 a.m.
