Maui Food Bank and the American Red Cross partner to launch the new West Maui food distribution center, “Da Market,” supporting families impacted by the 2023 wildfires.

In a significant move to address the escalating food needs of the Maui community in the aftermath of last year’s devastating wildfires, Maui Food Bank and the American Red Cross have partnered to launch a new fixed distribution center, “Da Market.” This new facility, located at 48 Ulupono Street in Lahaina, spans 4,000 square feet and includes both a warehouse and market area, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for those in need.

“We are incredibly grateful for the partnership with the American Red Cross,” said Charity Hartman, agency director, Maui Food Bank. “Da Market represents a significant step in addressing the food insecurity that many families are facing in the aftermath of the fires. Together, we are committed to providing the support and resources our community needs to rebuild and recover.”

Da Market operates Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering a variety of fresh, local produce, nutritious nonperishable items, and essential household goods at no cost. This initiative ensures that families have access to wholesome food choices, culturally appropriate foods, and essential items to support their well-being.

Since the Maui wildfires, the demand for food assistance has surged by over 65%. Monthly food distribution has increased from 250,000 pounds to nearly 800,000 pounds per month. Fresh produce distribution has doubled, from 78,000 to 160,000 pounds per month
