Gov. Green issues Emergency Proclamation for Tropical Storm Hone
Gov. Josh Green, M.D., has issued an Emergency Proclamation Relating to Tropical Storm Hone, to make state resources available as needed.
A red flag warning is in effect for leeward portions of the smaller Hawaiian Islands through 6 p.m. and a wind advisory is in the forecast through 6 a.m. on Monday. “Given the high winds caused by Hone and existing drought conditions, it is critical that the state and counties be prepared to rapidly deploy personnel and resources such as the National Guard to respond to any wildfires that may ignite and threaten life, safety or property,” according to the EP.
At noon today, the National Weather Service was forecasting stronger winds remaining in the forecast today as Tropical Storm Hone continues on a past westward. The NWS reports that on its current track, “Hone will brush past the southern slopes of the Big Island tonight into Sunday morning bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and large surf.”
The NWS forecast calls for strong and gusty easterly winds and periods of heavy showers to continue Sunday into Monday as Hone passes south of the smaller islands.
“A brief return of moderate to breezy trade winds is expected late Monday through Wednesday of next week as Hone continues on its westward journey moving away from the island chain,” according to the NWS.
Hurricane Gilma was last located 1590 miles E of Hilo, Hawaiʻi. Tropical Cyclone Gilma far east of the state will weaken as it approaches Hawaiʻi by the end of next week, possibly bringing more rainfall to the islands, according to the NWS.
