Surf retreat. PC: Mana O Maui

Mana O Maui has announced the launch of a scholarship program for its upcoming Soul Retrieval Surf Retreat, running from Sunday, Oct. 20 to Saturday, Oct. 26.

The scholarship is open to female residents of Maui who have been directly affected by the recent fires. This includes those who have lost homes, suffered trauma, or are grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.

The scholarship covers all costs of the retreat program, including accommodation, surf lessons, wellness workshops, and all meals. Regular tuition is $3,800 for the week-long program.

This healing surf retreat will offer a safe space, guided by licensed therapists, where survivors can process trauma, rediscover inner strength, practice meditation and mindfulness, and attend group therapy sessions to enhance this shared healing process.

Interested individuals can apply by visiting https://manaomaui.org/events-and-opportunities/soul-retrieval-surf-retreat and completing the online application form. The deadline for applications is Sept. 1, 2024. A selection committee will review all applications, and recipients will be notified by Sept. 15, 2024.

“We truly believe in the healing power of the ocean and community,” said Julia Hengst, one of the founders of Soul Retrieval Surf Retreat. “This month is the one year anniversary of the fires, and we extend our aloha to these survivors at this tender and charged time.”

Donations are also being accepted by the non-profit. Currently there are funds for one full scholarship, but Mana O Maui is hoping to offer up to three. Donations may be made at https://manaomaui.org/events-and-opportunities/soul-retrieval-surf-retreat.
