Jason Economou takes the helm as Maui United Way’s new CEO

Today, Maui United Way announced that Jason Economou is now serving as President and CEO of the organization.  Economou is a local attorney and nonprofit professional with a long history of community service and philanthropy.

“Jason’s steadfast commitment to improving the lives of people across Maui County makes him a wonderful asset to the organization,” said Interim Director Lisa Grove.  “He understands and is aligned with our mission and is clearly ‘united to do more good,’” she added.

Prior to Joining Maui United Way as President & CEO, Jason led Economou Law & Consulting, LLLC, a boutique firm specializing in public policy, program design, and operational strategy. Through his firm, Economou served as Hawaiʻi Legal Lead for the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s recent Governance Study, assisted the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement in their efforts to house fire survivors, and served as a local housing policy and governance expert for Argonne National Laboratories in their work advising FEMA and the federal recovery response.

His diverse professional background also includes broadcast journalism, litigation, teaching, and service as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda, which is where he met his wife, a Maui native.

“I’m excited for this leadership role where I can focus on helping our community thrive, not just survive.  I am eager to apply my diverse skillsets to serving the people of Maui County,” said Jason.

In addition to his professional expertise, Jason has a wealth of philanthropic and community service including serving as President of the Maui Food Bank Board of Directors; Maui Family YMCA Board of Directors; Maui Mediation Services Board of Directors; a sworn arbitrator in the Hawaiʻi State Judiciary Court Annexed Arbitration Program; Ka Ipu Kukui Fellow; application reviewer for the Maui County Affordable Housing Fund; member of the Climate Action Advisory Committee to the Maui County Council; member of the Community Advisory Board for the Kaʻahumanu Transportation Corridor; and member of the Maui Advisory Board for Best Buddies Hawaiʻi.
