The Puʻunēnē Post Office, located in a leased space at 10 Hansen Road in Puʻunēnē on Maui, will be temporarily closed at the end of the business day on Friday, Sept. 13. The closure is a result of safety concerns for the customers and employees of the Puʻunēnē Post Office due to widespread deterioration of the 100-year-old wooden structure.

The Puʻunēnē Post Office provides retail services and PO Box mail delivery to about 600 customers. It does not provide street mail delivery. Effective immediately, and until further notice, Puʻunēnē PO Box customers are asked to pick up their mail at the will call door of the Kahului Post Office, which is located less than two miles away, at 138 S Puʻunēnē Avenue. Customers must present a photo ID in order to pick up their mail. This special service for affected Puʻunēnē customers will be available from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused by this temporary closure,” said Puʻunēnē Postmaster Chris Harris. “We will provide our customers with updates on the status of our facility and its operations as soon as more information is available.”
