Emerging leaders in Hawai‘i can now apply for the Pacific Century Fellows program, a nine-month experience designed to connect participants with top leaders and explore key challenges facing the state. Applications for the 19th class open Monday, May 12, 2025.

Modeled after the White House Fellows Program, Pacific Century Fellows selects about 30 individuals in their mid-20s to early 40s from across the state, recognizing those with proven leadership skills in professional, volunteer and civic roles. Participants will meet directly with senior community, social and government leaders to gain a deeper understanding of issues shaping Hawai‘i and the nation.

“Fellows connect with like-minded peers and develop lasting relationships that are invaluable.” said Mufi Hannemann, chair of the Fund for the Pacific Century.

Hannemann was himself a White House Fellow in 1983-84, and was assigned to the Office of the Vice President of the United States, George H.W. Bush. He noted that past participants have gone on to serve as elected officials, executives, labor and nonprofit leaders, professors, media professionals, healthcare providers and military officers.

Fellows also have opportunities for international exposure. Last year, alumni and participants visited the Philippines, meeting with Philippine President Bongbong Marcos, the US Ambassador to the Asian Development Bank and other leaders. “In 2026, we are looking forward to a trip to South Korea, further expanding perspectives and insights relative to our neighbors in the Asia-Pacific region,” Hannemann said.

Individual companies may sponsor candidates for the program. The program fee is $7,000, which covers in-State expenses. Employers are encouraged to pay employee program costs, but tuition assistance is available. The application and program information are available at www.pacificcenturyfellows.com . The application submission deadline is Friday, June 20, 2025. Finalists will be interviewed in late August, and the Opening Retreat that kicks off the 2025-2026 sessions will be held in September.
