Maui police officer arrested on allegations of sex assault, placed on administrative leave
A veteran officer of the Maui Police Department was arrested for first degree sexual assault on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The 48-year-old Kahului man has been placed on administrative leave and his department-issued badge and firearm have been temporarily removed pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police say the individual has worked 11 years for the department.
“Any Maui Police Department employee who violates the law will be held accountable—both criminally and administratively,” said Chief of Police John Pelletier. “As Chief, I stand firmly behind the dedicated men and women—both sworn and civilian—who serve our community with integrity and commitment.”
Chief Pelletier said the department holds itself to the “highest standards” of accountability and transparency. “When our officers fall short of these standards, we must address those failures with impartiality and integrity,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
As with any arrest, individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The identity of the MPD employee has not yet been released.
