Hawaiʻi Community Foundation names Terry George as CEO & President, Michelle Kaʻuhane as COO and Executive VP
The Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) announced the appointment of Terry George as its new Chief Executive Officer and President. A respected and seasoned nonprofit leader, George brings decades of experience working collaboratively across Hawaiʻi’s nonprofit, government, and community sectors. His deep understanding of philanthropic foundations and their role in catalyzing impact makes him uniquely positioned to lead HCF into its next chapter. George will begin his role at HCF on August 1, 2025.
His appointment follows a thorough selection process by the HCF Board of Governors, who sought a leader with both vision and local insight. George has a long history of building cross-sector partnerships and supporting community-led initiatives and innovation. He most recently served as CEO and President of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and has remained an active voice in philanthropy across Hawai‘i.
Also announced is the elevation of Michelle Kaʻuhane to the role of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, effective immediately. Kaʻuhane, a trusted and experienced leader at HCF, will work closely with George to continue driving HCF’s mission and expanding its reach throughout the state.
“Terry comes to HCF with proven leadership, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to Hawaiʻi’s communities,” said Peter Ho, Chair of the HCF Board of Governors. “He understands how foundations can work hand in hand with local partners to deliver results. Michelle Kaʻuhane has been an essential force within HCF, and, together, this duo positions us for even greater impact moving forward.”
George expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and the opportunity to serve Hawai‘i through philanthropy.

Gov. Josh Green also offered his support and recognition. “HCF has become an essential partner to the state and to local communities, especially in times of crisis like the devastating wildfires on Maui. I welcome Terry’s leadership as we work together to build resilience and opportunity across Hawai‘i,” he said.
