Maui Committee meetings canceled, County legislative offices closed on Monday, Aug. 17

Committee meetings for Aug. 17 have been canceled and the county’s legislative offices will be closed Monday as county employees and residents continue to deal with Tropical Storm Lala’s aftermath, Maui County Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced.
The Water Authority, Social Services and Parks Committee had been scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. followed by a Water and Infrastructure Committee meeting at 1:30 p.m., Lee said. The Office of the County Auditor, Office of the County Clerk and Office Council Services — all part of the county’s legislative branch — will join other county and state offices in closing on Monday, Aug. 17 at Gov. Josh Green’s behest, she said.
“Our hearts once again go out to the communities left to recover from significant storm damage,” said Lee, who holds the seat for the Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū residency area. “We need to pause the county’s legislative work to allow local government’s focus to be on ensuring that residents are safe in their homes, workplaces, roadways and parks.”
Lee said she is hopeful the canceled meetings can soon be rescheduled and that committee meetings planned for Tuesday through Thursday can proceed as scheduled. The meeting schedule for the rest of the week is available at MauiCounty.us.
