Tropical Storm Lala Work (8.18.26) Upcountry. PC: County of Maui

The County of Maui Department of Water Supply (DWS) continues to respond to widespread storm-related impacts to the water system, with crews working across multiple areas to locate and repair damage and restore water service.

In Upcountry, a massive number of downed trees along Olinda and Piʻiholo roads have caused waterline breaks in multiple locations and blocked access to water treatment facilities. Access to the facilities has since been restored, but crews continue to work through the extensive debris and damage.

DWS drinking water tanks are positioned in the following locations:

Locating waterline breaks in these areas can be a complex and time-intensive process. Crews are working long hours to navigate through areas heavily impacted by fallen trees and debris to locate and mark each leak. Once a leak is identified, crews must clear a path through the debris to reach the site, then excavate the area to expose the damaged waterline and make the necessary repairs. Crews continue to work through each location as quickly and safely as possible to restore water service.

Upcountry: Water service along Olinda Road was restored Tuesday evening. Crews continue repair work along Piʻiholo Road.

ʻUlupalakua: Waterline breaks were repaired Tuesday evening. Crews continue to assess and repair damage to service laterals in the area. DWS drinking water tanks are located across ʻUlupalakua Ranch Store.

Honokohau: Crews are actively assessing and addressing impacts to the water system in the Honokohau area.

Hāna: Power interruptions in Hāna were resolved Monday.

West Maui: Crews continue to assess and address power-related issues affecting DWS facilities on the West Side. Because of the ongoing power interruptions, the West Maui notice to conserve water remains in effect. It expires once power is fully restored to West Maui.
