Mokulele Airlines waives unaccompanied minor fee for keiki traveling solo

Beginning today, Tuesday, Aug. 25, Mokulele Airlines will eliminate the added fees for children traveling alone between the Hawaiian Islands. Effective immediately, families will pay only the airfare (plus tax), with no $35 unaccompanied minor booking fee.

“In Hawai‘i, staying close to ‘ohana often means traveling across the ocean. We know how important it is for keiki to spend time with parents, grandparents, caregivers and the people who love them,” the airline shared in a letter to customers. “That is why, beginning today, Mokulele Airlines is eliminating the added fees for keiki traveling alone between the Hawaiian Islands.”

The airline reports: “While the added cost is going away, the care stays the same. All existing safety, identification, check-in, supervision and pickup requirements remain in place.”

What families should know

• Reservations for unaccompanied minors can be booked by calling the Mokulele Call Center at 866-260-7070, by the minor’s parent or legal/authorized guardian. These bookings cannot be made online or through a travel agent. The parent or legal/authorized guardian must agree to terms and conditions for unaccompanied children to travel on Mokulele Airlines.
• Check-in is at least 45 minutes before departure.
• It is recommended that an adult picking up a child be present at least 30 minutes before the flight arrives, so the child is not left waiting. If a change to the pick-up person is needed, it must be done through the Call Center prior to flight departure.

The Call Center team will guide guests through the process and help make sure children are ready for travel.

“This change is one small but meaningful way we can better serve the communities that depend on us. It is rooted in a simple belief: bringing ʻohana together should feel a little easier,” airline executives said.
