Vandals cause major damage restroom construction site at Maui High School

A construction project on the Maui High School campus was significantly vandalized, causing major damage to what will become a new restroom. Concrete walls, columns, pallets of concrete blocks and other areas inside the site were demolished. State officials described the extent as criminal property damage and say the incident occurred Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  

The construction project is for the Hawaiʻi Department of Education and managed by the Department of Accounting and General Services.

DAGS Director Keith Regan, who is also the state comptroller and the acting Lieutenant Governor, said, “Our contractor had been making great progress on this important project for our students and the community. Now, due to this senseless act of vandalism, we will need to spend additional money and time to fix the damage, order more materials and restart the project.”   

DAGS is asking that anyone with information about this act of vandalism to contact the Maui Police Department.
