The Maui Chamber of Commerce has released the video recording of its 2026 Maui Mayoral Candidate Forum, providing members of the business community and the broader Maui community an opportunity to hear directly from the two candidates selected by Maui Chamber members.

The forum, held Aug. 6 at the Maui Beach Hotel, featured candidates Richard Bissen and Yuki Lei Sugimura discussing issues important to Maui’s business community and the island’s future, including economic development, workforce, housing, infrastructure, public safety, permitting and other issues affecting businesses, employees, residents and the broader community.

The forum was presented in partnership with the Construction Industry of Maui, Maui Hotel & Lodging Association and the REALTORS Association of Maui.

The Maui Chamber emphasizes that the forum was strictly educational and informational in nature. No candidates were ranked, recommended, or advocated for or against in the forum. The format was designed to provide participants with an equal opportunity to hear directly from each candidate in a respectful, informative setting and to encourage informed civic engagement.

“The Chamber believes our business community benefits when employers, employees and residents have access to information about the issues that will shape Maui’s future,” said Pamela Tumpap, President of the Maui Chamber of Commerce. “Our role is to create opportunities for our members and community to become informed and engaged. This forum was intended to do exactly that.”

The Chamber encourages members of the community who were unable to attend the forum to watch the recording and hear the candidates’ perspectives firsthand.
