Monthly Mokuʻula film screening, Sept. 11

The Lahaina Restoration Foundation invites the community to experience the history and cultural legacy of Mokuʻula through a free immersive film screening on Friday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. at Maui Ocean Center’s The Sphere. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

E Hoʻi Ka Nani I Mokuʻula (Let the Glory Return to Mokuʻula) brings the story of this significant Lahaina site to life through a 360-degree animated experience. The film draws from oral histories and the knowledge of cultural practitioners, kūpuna, and community members to explore Mokuʻula’s history and its lasting importance to the people of Hawaiʻi.

Once a sacred and political center in Lahaina, Mokuʻula holds a deep place in the history and cultural identity of the community. Through the immersive presentation, audiences are invited to learn, reflect, and connect with the stories associated with this important site.

The September screening is part of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s ongoing monthly series at The Sphere. By continuing to offer the film each month, the Foundation hopes to provide regular opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the history of Mokuʻula and keep its stories present in the community.

“Mokuʻula is an important part of Lahaina’s history, and these screenings give people a chance to experience and connect with that history in a meaningful way,” said Theo Morrison, Executive Director of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.

The program is made possible through the support of the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority Community Enrichment Program, and Rotary District 5000.
