12 Year veteran officer with the Maui Police Department charged with sexual assault

A 12-year veteran of the Maui Police Department was arrested by MPD on a $150,000 warrant on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026.

Arrest logs show Devin Schoeppner, 49, of Kahului was charged with four counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of third degree sexual assault. 

He was placed on administrative leave back in May of 2025 when he was arrested for first degree sexual assault. His department-issued credentials and firearm were removed pending the outcome of the investigation, according to a department news release.

“Any Maui Police Department employee who violates the law will be held accountable; it is deeply troubling whenever an individual entrusted to serve and protect the public is accused of such conduct. The badge carries a tremendous responsibility and a standard of conduct that must never be compromised,” said Chief of Police John Pelletier. 

“We will not tolerate conduct that violates the law, abuses the public trust, or brings discredit upon this Department,” Chief Pelletier added. “The actions of one employee do not define the dedicated men and women who serve this community every day, but we will never minimize or excuse a betrayal of the trust placed in us.” 

As with any arrest, police say individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing. Police say no further information is available at this time.
