Friends of Jon Yokouchi announced today that Derrick Cabiles and JB Guard have joined Jon Yokouchi’s campaign for the Maui County Council Upcountry residency seat, lending their support as the campaign heads into the final months before the Nov. 3 General Election.
Yokouchi said their support reflects a shared commitment to Maui’s people, local families, and the long-term future of the community.
“I’m grateful to have Derrick and JB standing with our campaign,” Yokouchi said. “They care deeply about Maui and the people who call this place home. Their support means a lot to me, and I’m thankful they are willing to be part of this effort.”
“The addition of Cabiles and Guard comes as the Upcountry Council race continues to develop into a competitive contest this election season. Their support brings added momentum to Yokouchi’s campaign and highlights the importance of voter participation across Maui County,” according to the campaign announcement.
“With the General Election approaching, every vote matters,” Yokouchi said. “This is an important election for Maui County, and I hope our community takes the time to learn about the candidates, understand the issues, and make their voices heard on Nov. 3.”
Yokouchi’s campaign is centered on several key issues affecting Maui residents, including water, attainable housing for local families, infrastructure, responsible growth, and creating opportunities for residents to continue living and raising their families on Maui.
His campaign priorities include:
Yokouchi said his approach to public service is rooted in listening to residents, working collaboratively, and focusing on practical solutions.
“No one person has every answer,” Yokouchi said. “Good leadership means listening to the community, bringing people together, and being willing to do the work. That is the kind of leadership I want to bring to the County Council.”
“For Yokouchi, the campaign is also deeply personal. As a lifelong member of the Maui community, he said his decision to run is rooted in wanting future generations to have the same opportunity to build their lives here,” according to the campaign announcement.
“Maui has given so much to my family and me,” Yokouchi said. “I want to give back by helping make sure our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to live, work, raise their families, and build their futures here.”
