Photos: Lowell Maui impacts

Impacts from Lowell brought debris and flooding over several roadways on Maui, resulting in erosion and unsafe travel conditions in parts of South and West Maui.

State and County crews reopened the Honoapiʻilani Highway for traffic in and out of West Maui at around 9:15 a.m., after it was closed at around midnight due to flooding and debris from Hurricane Lowell. Storm surge from the then-Category 2 hurricane pushed rocks and debris onto the road, creating a safety hazard for travel on the highway.
