Gov. Green lowers flags for Patriot Day

Gov. Josh Green has ordered that the United States and Hawaiʻi state flags be flown at half-staff at the Hawaiʻi State Capitol and all state offices and agencies, as well as Hawaiʻi National Guard facilities statewide, from sunrise to sunset Friday, Sept. 11, in observance of Patriot Day.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, which claimed 2,977 lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Thousands of others were injured — and many first responders and survivors continue to suffer from illnesses related to the attacks.

“Twenty-five years later, we remember every life taken and honor the first responders and ordinary citizens who met unimaginable tragedy with extraordinary courage,” said Green. “We stand with the families who continue to carry this loss and recommit ourselves to the unity, compassion and service that brought our nation together in its darkest hour. We will never forget.”
