Hawaiian Electric sells custom ALOHA Collection bags to benefit Maui United Way, 2 other agencies

Hawaiian Electric is selling limited-edition bags made with the ALOHA Collection brand to raise money for Maui United Way, Aloha United Way and Hawaiʻi Island United Way, the utility announced Monday.
The bags are available only at hawaiianelectric.com/ALOHAcollection until 10 a.m. Nov. 16, according to the company. Sales are first-come, first-served and limited to available supplies.
The bags are lightweight and water-resistant. They feature Hawaiian Electric’s purple logo interwoven with a rose-and-pikake floral design.

There are two options:
- A day tripper bag with a zippered top and two zippered pockets, $76.
- The day tripper bag and a small pouch for carrying makeup or electronics, $99.

Each bag comes in ALOHA Collection packaging with a hang tag and postcard. Shipping costs a flat $12 within Hawaiʻi or $18 to the US Mainland, the company said.
Tatiana Quong, a senior business solutions consultant in Hawaiian Electric’s operations training area, came up with the idea for the fundraiser, the company said. Quong, who the company said has long been a fan of ALOHA Collection, pitched the idea to the retailer and worked with it on the custom design.
Hilo artist Sig Zane, his wife, Nalani, and their son Kuhaʻo created Hawaiian Electric logo in 2013. The logo’s elements are called Kahikuonālani and honor King Kalākaua, who brought electricity to ʻIolani Palace in the 1880s. Hawaiian Electric was launched in 1891.
