Blue `Aina Beach and Reef Clean Up, March 7 at Puamana
Trilogy in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation – Maui Chapter Presents: Blue `Aina. Blue `Aina was created to encourage people to take personal responsibility for maintaining the precious reefs that sustain ocean breaks, snorkeling destinations, and a thriving eco-system.
The purpose of the Clean-up event is to help sustain and raise awareness of environmentally responsible practices in the community.
The reef and beach cleanups take place monthly on the first weekend of each month at select reefs and surf breaks that require attention.
Efforts go toward water quality/sampling, reef/beach cleanup, and fish counting. The March 7th, 2010 effort will focus on Puamana. It is the third of 12 events taking place this year. Cleanups have already been conducted at Honolua Bay, Shark Pit and Mala in West Maui.
A $10 donation is suggested, with all donations going to the Surfrider Foundation and local non-profits.
The check-in for Sunday’s event is 8:30 a.m. at Lahiana Harbor. Departure is 9 a.m., with a return expected between noon and 1 p.m.
