St. Anthony in Wailuku Seeks New Head of School

St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School on Maui has announced plans to reshape its governance and begin a search for a new head of school to oversee campus management and operations.

According to the announcement, school principal, Patricia Rickard will continue to serve in her current capacity, providing oversight of academics, ministry, and student activities.

The search and restructuring plan will reportedly be conducted by a newly formed Governance Committee, headed by School Board Chair Catherine Nobriga Kim, a 1974 graduate of the school.

“This is an opportunity for St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School to grow and sustain financial security,” said Nobriga Kim in a press release.

“We look forward to building upon the school’s history of high academic standards and creating an environment that allows students to thrive and prepare for a challenging future.” she said.

Other members of the Governance Committee named in the announcement include:

• Pat Wong, County of Maui Corporation Counsel, and 1983 graduate of St. Louis School (also a Marianist educational institution);
• Robbie Spenser, firefighter, and member of St. Anthony Class of 1977; and
• Dale Webster, retired businessman, with experience in stewardship campaigns for the Catholic Church.

At the direction of the Governance Committee, principal Rickard will serve as an academic representative to the board, attending meetings and serving on the board’s 21st Century Learning Committee, the announcement said.

According to Nobriga Kim, the new governance program aims to, “increase student enrollment, adopt 21st Century Learning methods, and implement marketing strategies that include community partnerships, interactive participation with vicariates in the Diocese of Honolulu and overall improvement of school operations.”

St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School has graduated more than 15,000 students since it was established more than 160 years ago, the announcement said.

The school is the only Catholic high school on Maui and is located along Lower Main Street in Wailuku.
