Where to Fourth of July

Correction: The day of the 4th of July Annual Rodeo Festival is celebrated on Saturday, not the actual July 4 date, which is Thursday.

Remember when the English were taxing the crap out of us and we dumped a bunch of tea in the Boston Harbor and wrote a lofty and optimistic missive declaring this its own independent nation in response?

We neither, but we’ve all heard the tale a time or two.

That’s right, friends.

It’s fireworks time!

On Thursday, get your booty over to the Lahaina docks and board the ferry to Lanai where you can celebrate the Fourth with Nobu Lanai in the Four Seasons at Manele Bay.

The restaurant will serve deluxe bento boxes and specialty cocktails – including the new ‘MOMO’ martini – during a picnic-style Fourth of July lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for $68 per person.

While parents dine, the restaurant will offer complimentary sushi-rolling classes for kids led by Nobu Lanai’s animated Chef Misao. Sushi-rolling classes are free for dining patrons and $20 per child for non-guests.

Full of Momo martinis, catch the return ferry to Lahaina, as a variety of bands will be playing a free concert on the oceanfront Lahaina Library lawn starting at 5 p.m.

The annual fireworks display is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Fireworks can also be viewed from charter boats in Lahaina Harbor and (obvs) on land throughout Lahaina Town.

If parking is too much of a hassle for you, consider the “Fireworks Over the Pacific” Cocktail Cruise aboard the motor yacht Leilani.

Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and chef-inspired desserts as you cruise along the star and firework-lit coastline. The bar features select wines, ice cold beer, martinis and mai tais. Food and bar service is inclusive.

Check in is at 6 p.m. at Slip# 70 in the Ma’alaea Harbor.

The ship departs at 6:30 p.m. and returns at 9:45 p.m.

Tickets are $99.95 with a 10% online discount.

Then on Saturday is the Annual Rodeo Festival in Makawao.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. at the lower end of Baldwin Avenue. From there, it goes up to Makawao Avenue and ends at Eddie Tam Center. Events are expected – and traffic to resume normal flow – around noon.
