The Hawaiʻi Department of Education announced the appointment of Alvin Shima as complex area superintendent for the 16-school Baldwin-Kekaulike-Maui complex.
Shima served briefly as interim principal at ʻĪao Intermediate before being named interim complex area superintendent in March, according to a DOE announcement.
The DOE reports that Shima served in both principal and vice principal roles at various Maui schools including: VP at Makawao, Lahainaluna High School and Wailuku Elementary; and principal of Kīhei Elementary School.
Shima reportedly holds a bachelor of business in education and master of education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
“Alvin’s experience as an educational leader will be valuable as we prepare for what will be a critical school year for the Hawaii Department of Education,” said Ronn Nozoe, deputy superintendent of the Hawaiʻi DOE in a press release. “We are moving forward with the department’s Strategic Plan, which has student achievement at its core,” he said.
