Maui Boomers: ‘Am I Ready for Retirement?’

The AARP Hawaiʻi hosts two webinars this week, aimed at helping Maui boomers determine if they are ready for retirement.

According to the AARP, new Census data reveals that nearly 30% of Maui County’s population is between the ages of 45 and 64.

“With retirement right around the corner for many island boomers, the time has come to ponder the timeless question: “Am I ready for retirement?,” said AARP officials.

The free sessions cover various topics including: four areas vital to retirement security; 10 steps to get ready for retirement; top Social Security questions of 2013; Medicare 101; and the basics of long-term care planning.

“AARP has developed the 10 steps materials to help near-retirees begin the conversation around retirement income and planning,” said AARP Hawaiʻi State President Gerry Silva in a press release.

“Research has shown that more people are more likely to take action and change their behaviors when presented with simple, straightforward ‘steps’ and tools,” said Silva.

The sessions take into consideration longevity, inflation and market risks during retirement.

A webinar focused on Medicare 101, will take place from noon to 12:45 p.m. today, July 16, 2013 at the following direct LINK.

Another webinar, entitled Top Social Security Questions of 2013, will run from noon to 12:45 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at the following direct LINK.

AARP is a nonprofit organization with an estimated membership of 148,000 in Hawaiʻi.

The webinars and a workshop held on Maui earlier this week were organized by AARP in coordination with Sage PLUS and the Kaunoa Senior Center.
