This Saturday at 6:30 p.m., Grow Some Good will be holding an encore fundraising dinner at Capische? restaurant in the Hotel Wailea.

Chefs Brian Etheredge and Christopher Kulis will be showcasing school garden-grown ingredients in a four-course dinner with wine pairings, during an exclusive sunset event on the restaurant’s garden terrace.

The six course menu will start with passed appetizers made from the Grow Some Good garden.

This will be followed by a Big Island melon gazpacho and tomato tartare with burrata and charred garlic chive vinaigrette.

Next up is a Kona Maine lobster agnolotti with sea beans, Beech mushrooms, abalone vinaigrette and smoked Kula onion purée.

After that, guests will enjoy a grilled Maui snapper with micro shiso, pohole ferns, oven-dried tomatoes, hearts of palm, caramelized shallot and red wine brodo.

The meal will conclude with lilikoi malasadas.

Tickets are $98 and include wine pairings throughout the dinner service.

Grow Some Good is a non-profit project dedicated to creating hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices.

The initial project started at Kihei Elementary School, where according to co-founder Kirk Surry “it has grown from just three beds and one teacher to a quarter acre with almost a thousand students involved.”

In six years, Grow Some Good has flourished to reach nearly 2000 kids at five area schools, claims Surry.

In addition to helping establish food gardens and living science labs in local schools, Grow Some Good provides resources and curriculum support in agriculture, science, food education and nutrition.

The last Grow Some Good fundraiser dinner at Capische? was a sold-out event, and organizers expect the same this time around.

Reserve your seating by contacting Capische? at (808) 879-2224. Reservations are taken by phone with a credit card.

Even those who can’t make it to the event can get involved, as the program is always looking for volunteers.
